Car sales in march 2021 – Last year this time there was big chaos due to the Covid19 pandemic. It was a very turbulent year; the whole world stalled and the wheels of the economy wedged. However last few months brought hopes, especially for the auto sector. Quick recovery has been seen in the passenger vehicle segment in the past few months. Car sale in the country has been improving for the past many months and it as continued in last month as well. Car sales in march 2021, a total of 3,20,547 passenger cars were sold in India surpassing both February 2021 and March 2020 figures. In Feb 2021, the industry was able to sell 3,08,611 cars whereas in March last year only 1,40,778 units were sold. This results in staggering YoY growth of 138 percent.
This is the third time ever that the wholesale tally crossed the 300,000 marks and the second month in a row. The growth was led by the top three players in the industry. Market leader Maruti Suzuki saw its sales grow by nearly 108 percent at 146,200 units while Hyundai with a substantial growth rate of 100% its tally at 52,600 units.
The third was Tata Motors with sales multiplying by over 4 times at 29,654 units. This was the highest monthly sales for the company in the last 9 yrs. Mahindra has also joined the race with sales multiplying over 4 times.
March 2021 total sales accounted for 3,20,287 units as against 3,08,601 units in the month of Feb 2021. A growth of 3.8% is recorded. Market leader Maruti Suzuki recorded cumulative sales of 1,46,200 units in March this year as against 1,44,761 units in February this year which has resulted in 1 percent growth on an MoM basis.
2% growth on MoM basis observed for Hyundai, the company dispatched 52,600 units in March 2021 as against 51,600 units in Feb 2021. and Tata motors exhibited excellent growth of 9% on an MOM basis, 29,655 units are sold in March 2021 as against 27,225 units in Feb.
Maruti Suzuki an undeniable market leader followed by the Korean car Maker Hyundai Motor Co. There is a significant gap between their market shares of close rivals. Market leader enjoyed a market share of 52, a drop of 4% in market share has been observed this year.
The closest rival of the market leader managed to sustain its market share of 17.5%. Home-grown auto giant Tata Motors successfully improved its market share by 67%. The company enjoys an 8.2% market share now, last year it was 4.9%.
Top 10 selling Cars in March 2021 –
The top 10 car tally was dominated by Maruti Suzuki. Maruti cars remained the first choice for a long time. Except for 3 Hyundai cars in the tally of 10 all are from Maruti Suzuki. Swift remained in the first position followed by sibling Baleno.
This month also Wagon R remained hot cake in the third position. Hyundai Creta is the only non-Maruti car that could create space in the top 5 slots. Apart from Creta, Grand i10 and Venue remained part of the top 10 selling cars and grabbed rank of 9 & 10 respectively.
