Blacksmith B3 is a Chennai based start-up with a key objective of creating and facilitating electric mobility in the country. Officially company is formed in 2016 but the team has been passionately working on and researching the electric platform since the year 2003. Blacksmith team narrates about indigenous technology and component development.

Battery Technology

The lithium-ion cells are imported from China, but the company has designed its own battery module design. The company says it’s the only electric mobility company in India to have a patent for battery swap technology. The patented technology includes portable batteries, detachable batteries, quick interchange station, swapping technology, as well as batteries.

Design & Performance

The company is currently focusing on the Indian market as the initial stage. The company is planning to launch its models globally in the second phase. The company is actively working on future models which I named as Blacksmith B3, which is a scooter. This scooter is planned to launch so that to reach to every Indian family.

The Blacksmith B3 electric scooter is designed to have swappable batteries. The Blacksmith B3 electric scooter has a rated capacity of 200 kg (441 lb). It means two larger riders can comfortably enjoy the ride. It is also rated to climb grades as high as 25 degrees.

Blacksmith B3 also comes with patent-pending traffic indicators to notify the rider of approaching traffic on either side of the scooter. This could be the first time these type of sensors employed on electric scooters.
