EV to have fixed parking spots in Delhi
EV to have fixed parking spots in Delhi – To make EV popular, the municipal corporations are now mulling over reserving spots and setting up charging stations in parking lots.
EV to have fixed parking spots in Delhi – South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) would be reserving five spots for electric vehicles in each of its parking lots. “This move is a part of the new parking policy. The list of parking lots where 70 charging stations will be set up has been finalized.
Earlier, Delhi government had announced that by 2023 it wanted 25% of all new vehicles to be electric. The government notified the parking policy on September 30 on intervention of Supreme Court. The parking rules and base fee are currently under finalization by a committee headed by the transport commissioner.
Last year, SDMC had procured 75 electric cars for use by its senior officials. “In all, 75 diesel and petrol vehicles used by the officials have been replaced with EV to reduce carbon emissions by approx.75,000 metric tons per annum. The Civic Centre and zonal office buildings have multiple charging stations.
“The distinct advantage that EV has over traditional automobiles is the low running cost. Assuming a vehicle is run 1,600km each month, EV can save Rs 64,000 per month for the corporation. The only challenge is lack of charging stations,” said a senior official.
