Tata Motors  beats Hyundai Motor India to become the second-largest seller of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the first time, in December 2021. Tata Motors dispatched about 35300 units in December 2021 against 32312 units dispatched by Hyundai Motor India. This year and particularly this quarter was fabulous for Tata Motors. During the quarter of October to December, Tata Motors dispatched close to 99000 vehicles and finished year 2021 with sales of 3.31 lakh units.

On Saturday the automotive company reported a rise of 24 per cent in its domestic sales in December 2021 on a year-on-year basis. The domestic sales rose to 66,307 units during the month under review from 53,430 units sold during December 2020. Entire automotive industry witnessed many adversities mainly semi conductor shortage, high input costs and no production days due to COVID 19.

Hyundai Motors has also registered healthy growth 19.2 % in CY2021.Tata Motors is leading the rally of electric vehicles. The company claimed EV sales also touched 10,000 units in first 9Months of FY22 and crossed the 2,000 monthly sales landmarks for the first time in Dec ’21. Nexon EV remains best selling EV claiming around 60 % market share of EV market. Tata motors is focused on revival of EV platform. Tata Tigor EV has become the first Electric Vehicle (EV) ever to tested by Global NCAP, and it has received 4 stars for both adult and child occupant safety. Eyeing growing demand of CNG vehicles, Tata motors is gearing itself for CNG products. Company is getting ready to launch CNG Tiago, Nexon, Tigor, Altroz this year.

Going ahead semiconductor shortages and impact of new strain of COVID-19 are  the key sources of uncertainty. Tata Motors passenger vehicle business has manufacturing facilities in Pune and Sanand, Gujarat. In 1998, Tata Motors launched the Tata Indica, India’s first fully indigenous passenger car. Within two years of launch, Tata Indica became India’s largest selling car in its segment.
