Surat Municipal Corporation to add 150 e-buses

Surat Municipal Corporation to add 150 e-buses- The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) had submitted tenders for installation of 150 e-buses. This is because of the massive usage of vehicles on road and leading air pollution.

This is done to make our environment clean and green so, by replacing the diesel and petrol run buses which creates a lot of smoke, horrible sound and causes air pollution. SMC hopes to reduce not only its operational and maintenance cost of about Rs 200 crore by at least 60 per cent, but also curb air pollution.

At present there are nearly 400 BRTS and City buses are plying on different 51 city routes, with a total passenger load of 1.35 lakh people on a daily basis. The number of buses will rise up to 500 in coming three months as of the need.

On this topic the municipal commissioner of Surat, said, “The major advantage for SMC from e-buses will be in reducing operational and maintenance cost. As these buses will be run only from recharging, the capital cost of these buses will be a little high compared to other types, but reduction in O&M cost will make these buses more viable then others.”

More so, under the ongoing union ministry of heavy industries’ Fame II scheme, (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid ) Electric Vehicles) Surat will also get subsidy of Rs 45 lakh per bus, while the state government will give Rs 25 per km of the gross cost.

At present Surat has already floated tenders for 150 e-buses and plans to complete the procedure including running a prototype on city roads within the coming six months.
