2020 was an upsetting year for the Indian automobile industry but it wasn’t that bad for electric vehicles. The year started with two new electric cars — Tata Nexon and MG ZS EV hitting the market to join Hyundai Kona Electric and Tigor EV that was launched in 2019. Tata Nexon EV has emerged as the bestselling Tata electric car in 2020. Backed by the Nexon brand name, safety, and modern styling, the Nexon EV has emerged as a popular choice in the Indian market. Interestingly, the Nexon EV is also the most affordable Tata electric car or compact SUV in the Indian market.

MG ZS EV takes second place with 1,142-unit sales, thereby holding a market share of 28.5 percent. The ZS EV was introduced at the same time as the Nexon EV in January 2020. In an effort to strengthen its foothold in the segment, the company offered the eShield for the ZS EV. The Hyundai Kona, the first electric SUV in the country takes third place with 223 unit sales in 2020, thereby holding a market share of 5.6 percent.

The second electric vehicle from Tata Motors, the Tigor EV has witnessed a sale of 100 units, followed by the Mahindra e-Verito electric with just nine unit sales in 2020.

Tata Nexon was launched in January 2020 and is available in three variants — XM, XZ, and XZ+ Lux. The XM variant gets a price tag of ₹13.99 lakh while the other two trims will set you back by ₹15.25 lakh and ₹16.25 lakh, respectively.
